OBSERVATIONS BY VON

As the title says, these are some personal observations and suggestions for those interested in Tijuana. The following pages don't fall into a Spectrum Ministries category, but may be important to some visiting this site and wanting to work, or actually working in Mexico.

  • "HOW TO RAISE A MAN" New!
A new article written by von dedicated to a father seriously trying to raise his son to be a man in a tough world!

  • "COMMON SENSE & VIOLENCE (ANATOMY OF TEEN VIOLENCE)" New!
A new article dealing with the recognition of growing teenage violence; it's true source and solution.

  • "A CHRISTIAN? WHAT'S THAT?"
Today it seems that everyone we meet is a Christian of one variety or other. On occasion we will meet an agnostic or atheist who know more of what they don't believe than what they do believe. Dealing with so many that call themselves Christians I thought I would take a little time and define what I feel a true Christian is. Would you agree with the following definition?

  • "BAJA ORPHANAGES"
Like the "BAJA TRAVEL TIPS" section, these are pages that I have been wanting to write for a long time. Many well meaning Americans venture across the border wanting to "visit" an/or "help" orphanages but somehow their venture turns sour either for the Americanos or the orphanage. Reading this long epistle over I'm sure it will help in understanding the culture and the do's and don'ts of orphanage life.

  • "PROBLEM BOYS IN AN INSTITUTIONAL ENVIRONMENT"
Fifty years studying problem boys in an institutional environment deserves some conclusions and hopefully suggestions to help those who are working with these problem kids. You can have the kids fighting you or following you ... it's up to you.

  • "GIVING CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO THE TIJUANA POOR"
I feel that this letter will be very helpful to any who will be working with the poor in "Drive-in" Mexican border cities where visiting American groups "serve." Understanding the border culture of the poor is the first essential in helping them. Here's a lesson in "Border Culture 100." Read this thoughtfully and thoroughly.

  • "MINISTRY ON YOUR OWN"
I've scraped together some time to share some words of wisdom to those more independent leaders and individuals who want to minister in Mexico on their own. Nothing wrong with that. Many of us have done that. That's how ministries start BUT you don't have to reinvent the wheel. No sense making mistakes. This page will indeed help you in activating your ministry.

  • "WHY I GIVE TO THE POOR"
Just a short section on the reason I personally give to the poor out of my own pocket not Spectrum's pocket. I believe in the Bible's promise to those who give to the poor and care for the orphaned. Take a read.
