NEWSLETTER: JULY, 2010
In these letters we send you with your gift receipt, we try and give you a story, one in many, of what we are doing on the other side of the steel fence between San Diego and Tijuana. Giving you a visual of the nitty-gritty areas in which we work. The photos can show a bit of what we do and where we work but they really can't communicate what's happening in the spiritual war we're in. I feel there is something inappropriate about photographing personal spiritual struggles and breakthroughs. While our humanitarian work is colorful and easy to photograph, our spiritual side is relegated pretty well to text. The Bible studies, the discipleship, Vacation Bible clubs that will soon be starting ... the spiritual side. We sow a lot of Spiritual seeds and because we have worked so many years in Tijuana we have been encouraged to see real mature fruit. They were kids then, but now as adults they actually look us up and thank us. God has His ways and His timing. Jose, now a church leader in Tijuana, was converted by listening to us teach a gang of teens. Each week, in the dark he would stand quietly outside the room listening through the window. Indeed his window of opportunity. One afternoon at Casa de Joven (teen) orphanage the kids pointed out a new boy and said he wanted to become a Christian. Adrian was about fifteen and looked a bit uncomfortable as the rest of the boys stood around looking and listening. They asked if I would pray with him. Not knowing the language very well, I was placed in somewhat of an awkward situation. I needed help so I asked Jesus to help me ... and He did. A thin ten year old boy named Jesus who knew some English offered to help translate. Between both of us we prayed and shared the Gospel message to Adrian. We're on the road a lot! We go to the people and bring some home. Our cars may be old and used but they're moving living treasure, people. (Oh how nice it would be to have newer and safer vehicles.) I stopped by Tribo Jesus Orphanage yesterday. They mentioned that they needed a Jack, so we dug one out from my car. Their van had a flat tire and it was about school time. Then they mentioned they didn't have enough money to fix the tire. $5 later they were rolling the tire to the tire shop ... Thirty minutes later they were ready to go. Looks like that our $5 got there just in time. Thank you so much for your continued help!!! The economy in Tijuana continues to worsen, which in many cases translates to more drugs and increasing danger. Rest assured, we'll place your money where it's most needed. ~ Von, for all of us working across the fence! |
