NEWSLETTER: JULY, 2009
Tribo Jesus is one of the orphanages that we are involved with in Tijuana. "Tribo Jesus," in Spanish, means tribe of Jesus ... and like the Biblical tribe of Israel, they - the eighty or so kids - always seem to be wandering in the wilderness.
Their location now is on the hillside in the back country wilderness of Tijuana, renting an area that is totally unsuitable for an orphanage. But they have faith! I admire that. There are bunk beds four high in small rooms, a couple of bathrooms, one shower, outside kitchen, and on and on this paradox goes. At least they have rented land, water and lights. Tribo's financial support went "north" along with the American groups that are afraid to visit the war-zone any more. So soon forgotten. The staff works part time to keep food on the tables. I have to admire their faith. Last week Tribo's two old vans were reduced to one and now that one sits broken down. Kids walk a long way to and from school.
The pack of kids are dirty but happy and take it in stride. We keep close tabs and enter the picture when things get too bleak. We're repairing the van, but it won't last long running forty kids at a time to and from school. We've paid the overdue rent on several occasions, purchased food on other occasions. PTL, a great group from Georgia has really helped out. And unfortunately the Tribe is growing. Tijuana's economy is still sinking lower along with their peso. More stealing. More drugs. More prostitution. It's ugly. These orphanages are the only hope for hundreds of kids and their mothers. We hate to see their lights go out. We'll do everything we can to keep their lights burning. We are indirectly involved with four orphanages housing more than two-hundred kids. May we thank you for your support and your indirect help of these neat kids.
