NEWSLETTER: MARCH, 2007

I don't think I have ever dedicated a letter to house building. Yes, Spectrum builds little $1,500 houses from time to time for very poor or burned-out families. They're small and basic: roof, walls, window and door structure. A team "one-day" job. Remember: no bathroom, no running water, no electricity. I can't express how much these little houses are appreciated!

I thought I would focus on this house built for the Lopez family because, well, it is a rather special house. And it isn't a Spectrum house.

Our director, Aaron and his wife Christine, decided together that they would save the money they would spend on Christmas gifts to each other and dedicate the money to buy the materials to build a house for a poor family in the Tijuana foothills. They didn't have quite enough money so Aaron leaned on the in-laws and kicked in his Christmas bonus and they had the $1,500. Both Aaron and Christine decided to build it together along with a handful of friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Lopez and their ten year old son Tony now have a little place they can call their own.

While these photos aren't the best, and who has time to take photos while you're building, they do show a little of the story. (Photos on the back.)

Yesterday I met Josephina. Hortensia introduced me to her. It was a busy day and she seemed a little hesitant to interrupt me. Josephina had just stopped by to thank us for helping her young son with a very serious operation. His life was spared and he is doing well. She could do no more than simply thank us, and she did just that. Indeed, we get the thanks and the smile, but it’s you that we have to thank; you, and the Lord, for saving this little boy’s life.

Spectrum, as the name implies, is a ministry of variety. From preaching to teaching ... from medical and educational to house-building for the poor,Spectrum takes it’s name. Thanks for partnering with us as we work in the darkness of Tijuana. We appreciate you.

For all of us on the Spectrum team, von
