HOUSING AND TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS

When we give you the following hotel and motel options, you can understand that we can not quote prices or even give a price range as there are too many variables. Changes from season to season and year to year make price quoting impossible. It would be best to write (or call) them in advance and ask about their facilities and for their best buys. All of these motels have been host to a group working with us at one time or another.

There is a U.S campground available near Tijuana BUT it must be booked way in advance. It's inexpensive and Spartan and takes a tenting mentality (& equipment).

HOUSING IN TIJUANA

As far as housing in Tijuana is concerned, we would recommend finding a good quality hotel. Do not use motels in Mexico, as they are used and known for prostitution.

Spectrum has a new dormitory available in the Rubi area of Tijuana. As to availability and cost, please contact our office in San Diego at (619) 276-1385. Understandably, our dormitory is for Spectrum work groups only.

Check out a map to our dormitory and other locations where we work by checking out our 'LOCATIONS' section.

SPECTRUM DORMATORY CHARGES

Our dormitory is located in the relatively safe area of Rubi, right in back of Emmanuel Orphanage. It is still under construction so it can't be classed with any star rating. It has the basics.

Many of us don't really understand that housing costs. It's just one of those things that we sort of assume happens. Fact: To keep our dormitory open is really expensive. Water and electricity costs in Tijuana are even higher than in San Diego, which has one of the highest utilities rates in the U.S. Propane costs. Toilet paper and drinking water costs. Girl's blow dryers send our electric bill through the ceiling. (Gas for your vans is about double the cost in San Diego.)

There will be a non-refundable deposit of $200 required before we will confirm your reservation of the facility and enter it on our calendar. Plan ahead BUT please don't cancel, as other groups want to use the facility. Groups can use the deposit toward their dormitory housing cost when they arrive.

We can facilitate about thirty people.

Because of these expenses we have averaged the per head cost of keeping this facility operational to be $10.00 per person per night. This per head cost will be for Spectrum groups working in Mexico; other visitors can expect to pay $15.00 per head per night.

As far as meals are concerned, groups may eat out in local restaurants or have Spectrum provide your meals. Bringing your own cooks and providing for your own meals can be arranged with Spectrum personnel with the understanding that the facility must be left clean and in order.

Note: Be sure that you are on our office Spectrum calendar BEFORE considering using our dormitory.

RENTAL VANS

Rental of vans are also available from San Diego. These are things to consider while arranging for a rental van: Driver age limitations, Insurance for Mexico, Deposits necessary, Credit card requirements, Airport pickup and return services, Agency office hours and distance from airport. We recommend that you request a printout of all costs and pay in advance or a time of picking up the vehicle is possible to avoid any add-on charges. When deciding on space in the vehicles, it is a good idea to plan on allowing a seat for a Puente de Amistad staff person so they can assist with directions to ministry sites.
