CAN I WORK FOR SPECTRUM?

Do we need more help? More personnel? Yes we do! We are eager to have dedicated and qualified personnel join our team. Willing is great, but qualified is the key word here. The following may answer your question.

Can I work for spectrum? We have been asked that question many times, and though each case is unique, there are some important things to consider before you get serious about committing to Spectrum Ministries. Many think that mission agencies like ours hire our personnel. This is incorrect. Almost all mission agencies around the world require their personnel, missionaries and interns to raise their own support. The way it works is that people interested in supporting a missionary (in this case you), place their financial gifts designated to that missionary through a legitimate organization (like ours) for whom these missionaries work and to whom they are accountable. Bottom line, full-time personnel working for Spectrum must raise their own support.

We would expect anyone seriously considering working with us to know something about our work first hand, perhaps through a visit on one of our work days or a longer-term visit with us. (i.e. a week or so). We wouldn't recommend committing to any organization unless you were thoroughly familiar with the organization as well as what they do and where they do it. You should be familiar with our ministry BEFORE seriously considering committing to us. Remember, we as an organization don't hire our people. Unfortunately we can't provide housing or transportation, and San Diego is a very expensive city to live in.

Those wanting to work with Spectrum should seriously consider the following:

PHILOSOPHY?: We are a Christian organization with a Christian philosophy, motivation and agenda.

FOCUS?: A person working with us must have an interest in our field of ministry. Our focus is working with the very poor in Tijuana, particularly children and teens. These areas are often dirty, drug-infested and almost always dangerous. Young ladies must really think this over.

SPANISH?: We work in Mexico, so knowing and speaking Spanish is essential for those interested in full-time work. For those interested in part-time or summer work, a background in Spanish is very helpful.

HEALTH? We would expect a person considering working with us to be physically healthy and to be self-motivated, and a low-maintenance type person. We would discourage anyone who is in the process of physical, psychological or mental therapy.

TEAMWORK? We are a team and would expect those joining us to be team players.

WORK-ETHIC? We are a hard working crew and we would expect those working with us full time to work full time, more than 40 hours a week. A good physical work ethic is a great asset to us.

AN ASSET? Those who would want to be a part of us should have a skill to offer, something to put on the table, particularly in the area of working with poor Mexican families, children and youth. If you simply want to learn and grow and have a good attitude we can work that out too. If you are adventure bound or just want to do something in Mexico for the summer, that's great too but not for us at this time.

CREATIVE? A creative person is an asset within any organization and certainly would be welcomed by us. We love creative people.

If you feel you would qualify in these areas and would be able to support yourself, lets get together and talk.

Working for us as a local volunteer? We would love to have your help. Much of our work is done right here in San Diego by volunteers who live locally. We have plenty to do. If you have a skill and know a little of the language and want to work with us in Mexico as we commute back and forth you would be welcomed. Please contact Ron and Diann Mayo at (619) 276-1385.
